Some videos published by the Syrian regime's military media showed one of its latest weapons that it started to use which seems that the critical need pushed it to use them, especially with the deterioration of the capability of its aerial forces in which it lost many warplanes over the past period.
Drones
The new weapon which is currently being used by the regime in Aleppo is very small drones (multi-fanned and are very popular among the regime and the rebels). The regime used them before in aerial filming and reconnaissance; it loads them with two small bombs, the size of a grenade, that are believed to be taken from the Russian cluster bombs dropped by the Russian and its warplanes. The regime uses these drones to drop them at the rebels' cars, vehicles and gatherings.
The weight of the two bombs does not exceed one kilogram, but their impact may be enough to injure or kill several people, in a circle of 5 to 15 meters from the place they fall in, especially when dropping them at the rebels' gatherings in the exposed areas. These bombs are dropped without any pointing devices, rather by only depending on the position of the target according to the camera, as the drone stops above the target then drops the bomb.
Risks and Prevention
The danger of this weapon lies in its low price and its impact on the human forces of the rebels along with the possibility of using it in the assassination operations which target their leaders.
Dealing with such kind of weapons is very simple, with reconnaissance operations and visual observation, targeting these drones whenever they appear would be an easy matter. Shots from different firearms affect them directly, in addition to avoiding gathering in large numbers in exposed areas. Perhaps using the same weapon against the regime could be a logical idea, especially with the large amounts of cluster bombs that didn’t explode and which were left by the Regime and Russian's airstrikes against the civilians.
