Baladi News – Al-Sweida (Omar al-Jabali)
After a decision was taken to transfer and implement the death penalty against a number of prisoners, the detainees of al-Sweida Prison initiated a mutiny on Friday.
Sources from within the prison informed Baladi News that, “the mutiny ended with the prisoners taking full control over the prison on Friday afternoon. At five in the evening, the regime security started an attempt to storm the prison shooting live bullets and throwing tear grenades at the detainees.”
The source indicated that “A number of casualties fell due to the storming. Mohamed Raslan was known among these victims. Later, ambulance rushed to the area amid non-stop shooting by the regime forces inside the prison. However, the regime forces could not take control over the situation inside.”
The Prison is surrounded by more than 40 vehicles of the political, military, and criminal security agencies, which are attempting to break into the prison. Meanwhile, a number of prisoners held a number of guards hostages, and the casualties among the detainees rose to eight.
It is noteworthy that al-Sweida Central Prison accommodates a number of political detainees from all around the country. In addition, it includes divisions for women, juveniles and those imprisoned for life.
