PYD Denies Compensations for the Families of al-Qamishli Explosion Victims

Baladi News – Al-Hasakah (Kinan Sultan)

Kurdish activists from al-Hasakah governorate confirmed that the Democratic Union Party (PYD) refused the demands of more than 11 relief and humanitarian organizations for granting compensations to the families of the victims of an explosion that targeted a PYD security center and caused dozens of casualties among residents of the area.

Spokesperson of the Kurdish Future Movement, Jian Omar, posted on his personal page on Facebook that he received “information that proves that PYD is preventing humanitarian organizations from communicating with the families of the victims of al-Qamishli explosion in order to grant compensations to those whose houses and shops were destroyed and became homeless all of a sudden.”

“Activists in a relief organization, whose names will not be mentioned in order not endanger them, emphasized that the militias of Salih Muslim denied them from helping the victims’ families, threatening them of detention if they contact these families. The militias justified this procedure by the fact that a committee from the party would document all the damages and contact international agencies to obtain reliefs for the damaged people!”, added Omar.

The speaker said that he believed that, “Saleh Muslim’s party would not deliver the reliefs to the families even if they were received from an international body because it has had a black history in this regard. After Kubani battle with ISIS, the party promised the residents to reconstruct their villages. It had also pledged to compensate the citizens of al-Qamishli, who lost a lot during bloody clashes with the National Defense militia. However, no compensations have been provided so far for both Kubani and al-Qamishli residents. Rather, the subsidies went to the pockets of what is called the Kurdish autonomous administration.”

It is noteworthy that the militants of the so-called autonomous administration of PYD seized a shipment of drugs and medical supplies granted by the government of Kurdistan Iraq to the hospitals of al-Qamishli city hospitals as a relief for the injured people of the recent explosions in al-Qamishli.

Sources in the Kurdish National Council mentioned that ambulances, as well as four tons of drugs and medical tools, were sent by the government of Kurdistan Iraq to Simalka crossing border to transport the wounded to the region’s hospital.

However, the sources clarified that the autonomous administration stored the seized medical reliefs in warehouses in Al-Malikiyah near Simalika crossing border between Iraq and Syria.

Al-Qamishli, which is controlled by both the regime forces and militias from Democratic Union Party, witnessed a truck bomb explosion on the 27th of July. The explosion, which was committed by ISIS according to a declaration by Amaq News Agency, killed more than 50 people and wounded dozens others in the western part of the city controlled by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units.
