Baladi News – Al-Sweida (Omar al-Jabali)
Public anger in al-Sweida city surfaced again during the previous two days after a young man was stabbed to death in the daylight. The incident caused dozens of people to stage a sit-in in front of the governorate building in protest against the chaos which Assad’s regime contributes to by giving a free hand to thugs and security officers in the city.
A local source told Baladi News that the incident sparked overwhelming outrage in the governorate, especially after such incidents were repeated. Then, activists called for carrying out sit-ins and demanding the prosecution and punishment of the criminals. The calls received great popular attention, and dozens of young men gathered in front of the student’s union building in the city.
The same source said that the family of the two murderers who had killed the young man submitted one of them to the security agencies in the city. Meanwhile , the other murderer was hidden because he is supported by the military intelligence in the city, which caused mockery among people who were doubtful whether the criminals would be really punished, especially that military intelligence had released dozens of previously convicted criminals and given them a free hand to cause chaos all around the governorate.
Al-Sweida governorate is witnessing unprecedented security chaos as well as murders, kidnapping, robbery, and other crimes. The killing and kidnapping cases alone reached a number of 10 thousands during the previous month inside the city.
It is noteworthy that al-Sweida, which is held by Assad’s regime and governed strictly by the security forces, has become teem with previously convicted criminals, which caused fear among residents that internal dissension could break out and prevent any peaceful movements against the Syrian regime.
