The US Secretary of State John Kerry called on Russia, on Monday, not to carry out offensive operations in Syria and to prevent the Syrian regime from doing that too, which came with the continuation of fighting in a day Kerry had hoped for starting a political transition process.
He said: "It is necessary for Russia to prevent itself and the Syrian regime from carrying out offensive operations, as it is our responsibility to prevent the opposition from engaging in these operations."
Kerry's statements came after one day of launching the grand battel of breaking the siege of Aleppo, by the rebels battalions, that was imposed by the regime and its militias on July 7th, which endangers the life of more than 300 thousand civilians, especially after Russia had systematically destroyed the health and life facilities across the liberated neighborhoods of the city and its countryside.
Kerry's statement raised many inquiries, especially in terms of timing, as they were expected when the regime and the sectarian militias fighting on his side started a raging war to cut the supplying roads from Aleppo and besieging it under a Russian air cover, in which more than 560 civilians were killed during the month of last July, and which intended to completely destroy the medical infrastructure. So there was no longer any operating hospital in the city.
The journalist, Murhaf Dwedri, believed that "United States has always been trying to stand against any progress by the opposition," reminding of reports that have been leaked about stopping the rebels from attacking Damascus three times at the end of 2012."
The journalist also cited, in his speech with Baladi news, Kerry's threatening to the opposition when he said that Russia is able of "crushing the opposition" in three months if they withdrew from Genève 3. He concluded: "United States doesn't want the opposition to achieve any real and influential progress because it doesn't want, in fact, to change the regime based on Israeli recommendations".
Whereas the writer, Abdul Rahman Matar, Director of the Mediterranean Studies center, believed that "the American attitude is no longer surprising". The observers are fully aware that Washington had left the Syrian file in the hands of Putin two years ago.
"This was due to the superiority of the Russian diplomacy, as a result of the weakness and sagging, which experienced by the US foreign policy projects in the region since Obama had announced its new strategy in 2013. Moscow has realized that it is able to overcome the coordination and partnership with Obama's administration after its experience in the case of Syrian chemical weapons, which Moscow has aptly managed their file that enabled the regime to maintain a limited and effective quantity with the continuation of using the prohibited weapons without punishment", he added.
Concerning Kerry's latest statements, Matar told Baladi News: "Kerry's statements are not to stop the systematic destruction by the regime and Russia in Aleppo, but they are concerned with Washington being excluded by Moscow from any coordination on Syria, especially its latest battels in Aleppo along with imposing the siege on it for weeks, at the time Washington and the International community are turning a blind eye towards the systematic genocides against the Syrians".
He added that "Kerry's statement is an American offer to save Russia and the regime from further retreat at the hands of the revolution forces with their modest capabilities by stopping the logistic support from the opposition forces which are fighting the battel of breaking the siege of Aleppo".
