In Al-Rukban Camp… Children are Victims of Medical Negligence and Malnutrition

Baladi News (Ahmed Abdel-Ghani)

The refugees in al-Rukban camp on the Syrian-Jordanian borders are suffering from very difficult humanitarian situations due to the shortage of water, foodstuffs, and medical care.

Local sources from the camp said to Baladi News that the camp witnessed the death of two children less than one month of age, namely Fadia al-Khaled from Palmyra and Khaled al-Ali from Talbiseh.

The sources attributed the two cases of death to the lack of medical care as well as the contamination of food and water, if any. They also indicated that dozens of thousands of refugees are suffering from very difficult circumstances, amid scarcity in the resources and the reliance on surface waters resulting from rain and floods. In addition, international organization are unable to intervene to fix the situation due restrictions by the Jordanian government.

The sources added that al-Rukban, as well as other camps accommodating refugees from Homs eastern and southern country sides, need medical missions to provide healthcare for patients and critical cases, otherwise they would die. They also called upon international organizations to consider and provide dozens of thousands of refugees in the area with immediate assistance.

It is noteworthy that al-Rukban is one of dozens of camps spread on the Syrian-Jordanian borders. These camps were deprived from water and food for weeks after ISIS targeted a patrol of the Jordanian border guards, which has badly affected those living in the camps until today.

Demands to let the refugees in Jordan were rejected by the Jordanian government because it estimated that there are more than 200 possible terrorists among them.
