Baladi News – Mayar Haydar
The Action Group for Palestinians of Syria (AGPS) issued its statistical report entitled “detailed statistics for the Palestinian Syrian victims, detainees, and displaced refugees until the middle of 2016.” The report documented the death of 3275 Palestinian refugees due to direct reasons, including shelling, clashes, torture in prisons, explosions, and blockade, as well as indirect reasons, including drowning while attempting to reach Europe in what has become known as the “death boats.”
The report also documents that there are 1088 Palestinians in the Syrian prisons, including 75 women. As regards the Palestinians who were forced to leave their camps in Syria, the report indicates that more than 150 thousand Palestinian refugees were displaced to Lebanon, Turkey, Jordan, Egypt, Libya, and Europe. The number of Palestinians who have arrived in Europe is the largest according to informal statistics, exceeding 80 thousands.
The report provides several documented statistics classified according place, age, and gender for specific time periods since March 2015 until June 2016, but it is not concerned with specifying the committer directly.
Palestinians and the Road to Jerusalem
Media activist, Safi Ezzeddine, told Baladi News that “The Syrian regime acquired a lot of gains by exploiting the Palestinian cause the same way Iran and Hezbollah obtained huge benefits by hiding their real faces behind the masks of the axis of resistance, but the Syrian revolution exposed all these liars, and showed they trade on the Palestinian case in international political Bazaars.”
Ezzedine added that “What the Syrian regime and Ahmad Jibril militias have done in the areas inhabited by Syrian Palestinians in southern Damascus is much worse than what Israel itself has done.”
“As our fathers were expelled from Palestine by Israel, Assad expelled us from Syria. Assad has also killed and besieged us the same way Israel has done against our brothers in Palestine. However, the crimes of Bashar al-Assad are graver than those of Israel, as he has forced us to eat rubbish and meats of donkeys and cats,” the speaker added.
The speaker concluded by indicating that “trading on the Palestinian cause by Assad’s regime and its allies in Tehran and Southern Lebanon is profitable for the time being, because the proclaimed axis of resistance meets with the axis of fighting terrorism, and both of them serve the interests of criminal regimes. However, the land would ultimately return to its owners.”
