More than twenty unknown explosions hit the Defence Factories in Sfira of Aleppo governorate on Saturday night. These explosions were so huge that they could be heard at fifty kilometers from the area.
In celebration of the explosions, which are considered the largest in the five years of the Syrian war, rebels in the liberated parts of Aleppo and Idlib shot into the air, hoping that the factories would go completely out of service. For the rebels, such celebrations are justifiable, because the factories, which the regime spent desperate efforts to defend, have played a prominent role in the armament of its forces and the control of vast areas in the northern parts of the country.
Several explanations appeared as regards the real reason of the explosions. One explanation attributed them to the explosion of barrel bombs upon loading them on helicopters, which was not accepted by some analysts who said that the explosions were caused by friendly bombs dropped mistakenly by a regime helicopter on the ammunition depots in the factories.
Another explanation suggests that the rebels are who bombarded the factories, which is found relatively logical. Normally, the construction of depots causes a single internal incident to be limited to the depot where the incident happened, and would not spread to nearby depots. The fact that several depots exploded, rather than one, indicates that deliberate bombardments are more likely, which negates the explanations of an error during the loading of barrel bombs or the friend bombs.
Consequently, it is strongly believed that some party has targeted the factories with cruise missiles. Turkey, which expressed its intentions to wage a strike against more than a position of the regime in north of Syria as a preliminary step towards some kind of intervention, is one of those parties. Another party is Israel, which is known to target the depots of strategic weapons of the regime, which are considered inappropriate for shipping to Hezbollah.
