Baladi News – (Rima Mohammed)
Despite the consecutive truces and their extensions by Assad’s regime, the increments in the number of casualties have not stopped. Moreover, Whiz of bullets and boom of cannons and missiles can still be heard everywhere, even in the capital Damascus. Russian and Syrian war planes still hover over the sky from Aleppo in the north to Daraa in the south.
Truces’ Fabricators
Truces are usually declared in the Russian airbase of Hmeimim in Tartus after Russian and American agreements or on UN request. However, this time, the truce was declared by the “General Command of the Armed Forces” of the Syrian regime for the first time, which was forced along the Lesser Bairam and extended three days between the 9th and the 12th of July. The first half of 2016 witnessed the declaration of several truces, the most prominent of which was the one that was approved by the Russians and the Americans under the tittle “Cessation of Hostilities” last February, whereas the years 2011, 2014 witnessed 2 truces in each year, while 3 truces took place in 2015.
Unlike the previous ones that covered certain spots, the recent truce covers all the Syrian territories. Whereas analysts believe that the regime, under the guidance of the Russians, wanted to appear as the owner of the sovereign decision.
What is behind the truces?
Two massacres in Idlib and other war crimes in most of the Syrian areas were perpetrated during the truce of Eid al-Fitr, which led many to describe the calms as “fabricated truces”.
The regime also exploited the truce to block Castello Road, the only remaining life vein for Aleppo. The whole road became exposed, making any vehicle passing through it an easy target for the war machinery of the regime. The rebels are afraid that the truces, adopted by the regime and its supporting states, might be a cover to pass some international agendas, which could help to create what is called “the beneficial Syria” through “Human Engineering” strategy based on demographic change.
Strategic expert, general Ma’moun Abu Nawwar, thinks that the Russian-American-Turkish accord is a result of the allocation that provided Turkey with the capability to establish a “safe zone” and prevent the creation of a Kurdish state in the north of Syria.
International allocations
The states supervising the Syrian war reached an agreement of dividing the Syrian land, so that each party would “ignore the violations of the other parties in their allocated areas”. Russia sought to eradicate some Syrian factions classified as “terrorist” groups such as Al-Nusra Front through very specific and crushing strikes. It is also expected that Russia would use ka-52 Alligator helicopters taking off from “Admiral” aircraft carrier off the coast of Tartus.
On the other hand, the rebels were allowed to advance in Lattakia countryside to establish a safe zone in order to accommodate the refugees from and reduce the burden on Turkey.
In the south of Syria, the air forces were absent in the “Liberated areas of Quneitra” that witnessed a relative calm. At the same time, two Israeli aid trucks entered the areas where refugees from Damascus countryside, Daraa, and Quneitra reside, and its war planes hovered and bombarded an area in the outskirts of Madinat al-Baath, the important city that includes large numbers of the Syrian regime supporters in the southwest.
According to observers of the Syrian affairs, the truces have never been in the interest of Syrian people, and what the Syrians really fear is that such truces could be a way to pass international agendas that would not save the lives of the Syrians and their children from Assad’s plots.
