Vague Threats Aggravate The Tension Among Syrian Kurds

Alaa Nur Al-Deen, Baladi News

Media agencies close to PYD's militia have reported a statement by an armed group called “Jarjara Armed Organization”, in which it released threats of  eradication against some leaders of  the Kurdish National Council. The statement also accused leaders of  the Kurdish National Council of harming the cause of Kurdish people and serving those who occupy the land of Kurdistan.

Salih Kido, a leader in left Kurdish Democratic Party and a member in the  National Coalition for Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces, responded to the statement and said: "Many see this organization as only a trick that attempt to confuse the political scene in (Syrian Kurdistan), however, if that was real, that means that the Kurdish-Kurdish relations in Syria will reach unprecedented escalation”.

This was observed as a direct accusation to the Kurdish militias on ground and a serious warning to them if they committed any assassination to members and parties' leaders that disagree with their policies.

Sultan al-Hussain, a Syrian journalist specialized in Kurdish matters believes that “This organization is only pretending to protect “Kurdistan interest”, its threats aim at eliminating every plan that has conflict of interest with its policies. Such groups are affiliated to PYD even if they threatened autonomy. The clearest evidence is that the statement was reported by media agencies close to autonomy in order to justify any assassination that will happen in the future among the Kurds”.

He also added: “What the Kurdish autonomy, represented by the Democratic Union Party, the strongest entity in the Kurdish areas, is trying to promote is almost identical to what the regime has previously tried to promote, or has probably been during the past years of the revolution. They have attempted to create bogus entities and organizations that aim to incite terror and terrorism, and to settle accounts using false names”. The Syrian journalist referred to a state of “seizure” that PYD-affiliated media agencies are trying to spread, where they collect such statements and send them out to the public opinion. This is, so to speak, an irrefutable proof of the strong link between the two - a link that starts with planning, to promotion, and ends in execution, as he described it.

Many observers in the Kurdish community foresee major changes in the “Kurdish arena” due to  these assassinations committed by autonomy, where they tried to get rid of many unwanted parties by harming them under the pretext of “terrorist groups”. PYD is accused of  killing and arresting Kurdish politicians that disagree with its policies in Amooda, Qamishly and many other places.
