The Syrian network for human rights reported on Sunday the death of nearly 12,679 people under torture during the last five years (since the breakout of the revolution) indicating that 99% of which were killed by the Syrian regime.
In its annual report issued on Sunday and on the occasion of the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, SN4HR confirmed that “the report is based on the daily documentation and investigation since 2011 and till now, and all the estimates included therein are registered with names, photos, place and date of death or detention and many other details”
The report also noted that "in light of the exceptional difficulties and the massive violations, what is stated in this report represents the minimum number of violations. The report also included testimonies for survivors from various parts of the conflict"
The report titled “we must save the rest of the detainees” clarified that the victims were killed in the period between March/2011 and June/2016, including 163 children and 53 women.
The report confirmed that regime forces killed 12,596 individuals, including 160 children and 38 women; 18 individuals, including a child and a woman were killed by autonomy forces (PYD affiliated to PKK terrorist group); 29 individuals, including a child and 13 women were killed by ISIS; 15 individuals by al-Nusra Front; 19 by the opposition armed factions. The report also indicated that two victims were killed by unknown parties.
Within the report, Fadel Abdul Gani, director of SN4HR, said: “Not a single case has been recorded by a legal arrest warrant and no family that has lost one of its members had notified us of receiving any investigation done by the regime to determine the cause of death”
On the other hand, the network reaffirmed that: “The regime has committed crimes against humanity, represented in torture, sexual violence, forced disappearances, and murder. Following the non-international armed conflict, all of these crimes turned into war crimes as well”.
The report also pointed out that: "(Kurdish) autonomy forces did by arresting detainees in very harsh conditions and torturing other parties in a non-international armed conflict is considered war crimes".
