Israeli media confirmed on Monday morning that Israeli war planes had previously conducted several air strikes with guided missiles against Free Syrian Army (FSA) headquarters in Daraa. The air strikes destroyed a highly advanced missile launcher that had been taken earlier by the FSA from the Syrian regime army.

Tel Aviv Radio confirmed the unprecedented attack as a part of a strategy that aims at preventing any armed formations, except the Syrian regular army, from possessing important offensive weapons.

The radio quoted Israeli sources as saying that Israel intends to prevent the Syrian opposition, operating near the borders, from possessing any “balance-breaking” weapon, indicating that tens of Jewish settlements are within the range of the missiles and weapons of the Syrian armed opposition.

The sources emphasized that, regardless of “the political identity and ideological background” of the groups operating in the south of Syria near Golan Heights, Israel “will not allow any party in this area to obtain a weapon that can threat the Israeli civil depth.”

Media activist, Abdul Hakeem Muhammed, said to Baladi News that “the Israeli attacks mostly targeted missile systems that had been gained by the FSA after taking Tel al-Harra (al-Harra Hill) from the Assad’s regime forces.”

The speaker clarified that the attacks were not waged immediately after gaining control over the hill. Rather, they were synchronized with Russian airstrikes in order to cause confusion among the ranks of the rebels with regard to the real identity of the attacking war planes.”
