Syrian Organizations: UN is Biased to the Syrian Regime

Updates, Baladi News

Group of "Campaign of Syria" accused the United Nations of losing its integrity, independence and impartiality in Syria and being biased to the Syrian regime. The group indicated in its report that 88% of the aid have been sent to the regime-held areas. The report of the campaign, which is comprising 55 non-governmental organizations, has also accused the United Nations of complying with the regime in drafting strategic documents.

"Campaign of Syria" indicated that the organization has provided a controversial support to the cities that were besieged by regime forces, pointing out that the United Nations systematically failed in classifying and defining the besieged areas, according to (Al-Jazeera Net) website.

The report added that the relief operations run by the United Nations in Syria violate the humanitarian standards of the international organization and these violations threaten by involving them in the conflict.

In this context, Asa'ad Al-Ashi, the executive director of "Syria is Our Home" organization, one of Syria's campaign organizations, said that 88% of the food proportions had been distributed by the UN in the regime-held areas for the sake of ensuring the existence of the UN offices in Damascus, while opposition-held areas received only 12%.

Al-Ashi attributed the main reason behind the UN bias to the regime's control of renewing the visas for the international organization staff which is an authority practiced by the regime in which it threatens them if they increased the distribution proportion in the opposition-held areas.

He described what's happening as "Ludicrous" because the one who controls relief distribution is the UN resolution, pointing out that only 1 out of 122 request of entering the besieged areas was accepted in 2015.

Al-Ashi mentioned another example from the humanitarian report concerning Syria issued by the United Nations in 2015 in which he referred to the compliance of the International Organization with the Syrian regime's pressures as well as removing the besieged areas' phrase and replacing it with the difficulty-accessed areas, explaining that the two classifications are different procedurally in the United Nations schedules and decisions.
