Regime warplanes bombarded, on Friday, the besieged neighborhoods of the city of Darayya in the western countryside of Damascus with more than 20 barrel bombs hours after the arrival of a UN aid convoy to the besieged city for the first time since four years.
A UN convoy entered the city of Darayya in the late hours of Thursday night after taking the approval of the Syrian regime to enter the city by land heading towards 3 Syrian cities: Duma, Darayya, and Muadamiyat al-Sham.
Syrian regime had deliberately bombarded the city from the eastern front that is receiving the aid convoy which led to a delay in the arrival of the convoy till Thursday night.
Baladi News got an explanation from one of the UN officials about the amount and type of the aid sent by the UN, he said: "among the contents of the convoy, if fully delivered, 16 medication kits, two kits of personal hygiene, in addition to sanitary pads and two sets of safe delivery".
"We have sent 2400 food rations, 960 flour bags weighing 15 kg for each, in addition to other stuff for the estimated 4000 people", the UN official added.
Director of the Syrian Red Crescent, Tammam Muhraiz confirmed that "9 trucks unloaded their shipments in Darayya, containing food aid, including dried food, bags of flour and other stuff in addition to medical aid", according to "AFP". He also indicated that the operation has been made in coordination with the Syrian Red Crescent and the UN nations.
It should be noted that 7000 people live in the besieged city of Darayya who had been without any food aid since the beginning of the besiegement at the end of 2012. Therefore, the amount of the UN aid isn't enough and doesn't meet the needs, according to activists.
According to "AFP", UN aid convoys had entered the city a week ago loaded with mosquito nets, some sanitary pads and drugs. The shipment has been unloaded in the local council's warehouses of the city of Darayya.
Regime's approval of entering food aid into Darayya comes in conjunction with the deadline set by the United Nations to start the operations of air drops to the besieged areas which are suffering of the difficulty of delivering food aid by land.
UN food and medical aid had been entered into the city of Muadamiyat al-Sham earlier this week with accusations by the local council against regime forces of stealing amounts of flour. whereas the city of Duma is still waiting for the delivery of the UN aid convoy by land after taking the regime's approval.
