In a report released on Monday, a humanitarian agency affiliated with the United Nations said that a US-supported attack in the outskirts of the Syrian city of Manbij threatens to force 216 thousand civilians to flee the area, a number that will be added to 20 thousand that were reported to have already left.
The report, which cites data last updated on Saturday, refers to a possibility of civilians facing “difficulties” in getting out of the Islamic State- held areas as well as an urgent need for providing shelter, drinking water, food, and healthcare.
International coalition-supported forces launched an offensive to retake the strategic city of Manbij east from Aleppo. The United States indicated that Arabs-majority moderate groups constitute these forces, but rebel sources said that these forces are mostly Kurdish militias that have their own agendas.
