Blocking Castello Road Puts Aleppo on the Verge of a Humanitarian Crisis

Baladi News – Aleppo Countryside (Ziad Al-Halabi)

The Syrian regime forces, supported by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units, imposed a partial siege on the liberated neighborhoods of Aleppo after blocking Castello road, the only remaining life vein that connects the city to its northern countryside.

The road became virtually blocked because of the lurking forces of the regime and the Kurdish units targeting anyone on it. Last Tuesday, some poor civilians attempted to take this road in order to escape from the heavy Russian and Syrian regime shelling on Aleppo. However, their bus was bombed by the regime heavy artillery, which caused the death of eight passengers. Civil defense teams were unable to pick up the bodies because of the Kurdish units snipers observing the road.

Blocking Castello road puts the whole liberated parts of Aleppo on the verge of a disastrous humanitarian crisis. Since it is the only remaining route for entering foodstuffs, medicines, and fuel, 500 thousand civilians are threatened with another kind of annihilation after dozens of casualties resulted from the Russian and Syrian regime airstrikes.
