U.S. State Department spokesman "John Kirby" has Criticized Syrian Presidential Adviser Bouthaina Shaaban , and called the Syrian politician "Shaaban "a propaganda mouthpiece" for the Assad regime ahead of her appearance via Skype at the National Press Club. An adviser to President Assad, Shaaban is due to speak at an event Thursday hosted by the Global Alliance for Terminating ISIS. The Treasury Department sanctioned her in 2011. Kirby says despite her appearance, "It doesn't mean the sanctions still aren't valid."
