100 Thousand Civilians Trapped at Syrian-Turkish Borders after Islamic State Advancement

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) warned on Friday that nearly 100 thousand civilians in Syria got trapped between the Turkish borders and the fronts of clashes between the Free Syrian Army factions and the Islamic State after the recent advancement of the organization in Aleppo northern countryside.

MSF commented on these developments, “We are deeply concerned regarding the fate of our hospital, patients, and about 100000 people trapped between the Turkish borders and the battles front lines”, announcing that it had to evacuate Al Salama hospital, which it supports, of most patients and staff workers north from Aleppo because of the approaching clashes.

On the other hand, in a tweet by its researcher, Gerry Simpson, Human Rights Watch indicated that the number of the trapped could reach 165 thousands.

In the same context, more than 10 civilians were killed last Friday as a result of the clashes between the Islamic State organization and the Free Syrian Army in Kafr Kalbin and Kaljibrin north from Aleppo.

It is reported that ISIS has laid siege to Mare' city to isolate it from Azaz after its biggest advancement in the area since 2014, which forced the rebels to announce a calm with Syria’s Democratic Forces in order to move about 150 thousand civilians trapped in Mare’ to Azaz through Afrin.

Aleppo northern countryside has witnessed a lot of battles among several military forces over the past five years. Last year, ISIS-held areas near the Turkish borders diminished after the Kurdish People’s Defense Units, which paved the way for the establishment of Syria’s Democratic Forces, took some of them.
