Under the continued blockade of the Syrian regime forces and their allied militias on Madaya town in Damascus countryside, girl Oula Murad died at the age of 11 years on Thursday due to severe malnutrition.
“Malnutrition was only a phase of her sufferings”, said Dr. Mohammed Yousef, head of the medical committee in Madaya and Baqin, adding that “Oula has suffered since the beginning of the blockade one year ago. After long periods of deprivation of growth nutrients, the poor girl’s body started to dwindle. Then, she was infected with Kwashiorkor disease and generalized edema. We tried in vain to revive her, but her sick body did not respond to the treatment at all. We appealed to medical and UN organizations to take the girl out of the town for treatment, but they did not keep their promises to help.”
Oula, the innocent girl, had died because she had not been taken out. However, hundreds of cases are threatened with death in the same way unless they are rescued from death due to lack of specialized staff, medical equipment, and medicines in the besieged areas.
