Russia Offers 800 Food Baskets to Enforce a Truce in Jayrud

Baladi News – Damascus Countryside (Mohammed Anas)

A number of Russian negotiators from Hmeimim airbase tried to obtain concessions from the citizens and rebels of “Jayrud” city as well as Al-atna village in Damascus countryside after exerting heavy pressures on them over the past few days to sign a calm agreement.

Activist “Abu Al-baraa Al-shami” emphasized to Baladi News that the negotiators, who are officers in the Russian army, were trying to utilize the blockade imposed by the regime forces to enforce the truce by offering to allow the entry of 800 food baskets only to 50 thousand civilians besieged by the regime forces.

Al-shami added that “the Russians’ intentions to obtain concessions and sign a calm in Jayrud and Al-atna for the interest of the Syrian regime became clear during the meeting of Russian and Syrian commanders on one hand and representatives of the citizens including the mayor, a cleric, and prominent people from the area on the other side.”

According to the speaker, “Despite the huge pressures, rebels’ delegation refused to sign any truce before the following conditions are executed by the Russians and the Syrian regime forces:

First: releasing all detainees in the regime prisons and returning dismissed civil servants to their positions in the departments of the Syrian state.

Second: Reopening the national hospital in Jayrud and allowing the entry of medicines, fuel, and aid to the besieged areas.

Third: Stopping the harassments of the regime checkpoints against civilians.

Al-shami indicated that the Russians mentioned that they would study these demands and report back to the delegation of the rebels who refused to sign any calm agreement before all their demands are fulfilled.
