Ra'ed Al-Saleh, Syrian director of civil defense said on Monday that "the volunteers have rescued since the formation of the organization in 2013 and until today nearly 50 thousand victims out of the rubble as a result of the shelling on the liberated areas".
He said in a speech during the sessions of the World Summit conference for humanitarian action in Istanbul "Is it possible that the explosive barrel bombs that destroyed homes, displaced millions of Syrians and killed women and children were dropped by an unknown?". "we are in the Syrian civil defense organization, which was founded by the initiative of 2013 and where the number of volunteers reached 2890 working in 119 centers, to assist the people affected by the aerial bombardment", the director added.
Syrian Civil defense personnel were subjected to various violations which led to the deaths of more than 100 volunteers, according to the report of the Syrian Network for Human Rights.
"The network has documented the deaths of 106 members of the civil defense, 99 of them were killed at the hands of regime forces, 3 by Russian forces, and 4 by unknown bodies", according to the report which was issued last Sunday.
The network has also documented 66 cases of assault on civil defense centers in Syria, 62 of them were committed by regime forces, 3 by Russian forces, and 1 by an unknown body.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights had called on the security council to issue a resolution criminalizing the targeting of civil defense teams and all relief and medical staff in Syria.
