Baladi News – Idlib (Saleh Abu Ismail)
Abed Mohammed Reza Attar from the town of Kafr Taakharim in Idlib countryside has been the first student to discuss a master’s degree thesis in the liberated areas of Syria since the outbreak of the revolution more than five years ago.
The thesis, which was prepared to attain master’s degree in education, was titled “Problems of the 1st grade students of the elementary stage and their impact on educational attainment”. A number of PhDs and masters’ degrees holders attended this unprecedented event in the north of Syria.
Dr. Abdul Razak Ibrahim, administrator of the branch of International Arees University in Syria, said to Baladi News: "I consider this the first step of intellectually rebuilding the liberated areas, especially after the deterioration of education there. We hope that this initiative would be an example to follow in the future. Although we could hold the discussion in Turkey, we chose to have it inside Syria, because of our insistence on returning scientific research to normal in the interior”.
The student Abed prided himself and the Syrian people of this achievement, considering it a challenge to his own circumstances as well as the bad reality that students and researchers are suffering from in the liberated areas. After the liberation of Idlib, the educational activity started to take shape by opening several universities, including private ones, in Idlib and Aleppo. However, the faculties of these universities were sporadically distributed in several liberate areas due to concerns that the regime the Russian air forces could target such institutions.
