In a statement issued on Monday, the administration of Bab Al-Hawa crossing Border declared the seizure of rotten baby milk shipment. The milk was manufactured by a German company in 2014 under the supervision of the Iranian ministry of industries and business. The statement uncovered all the details of the shipment, confirming that no document indicated that the company had obtained the approval of the German ministry of health for extending the validity of the milk. Rather, the documents mentioned that the extension had been supervised by the quality control department at the company.

Head of drug control section at the department of health in Idlib, Jumaa Omar, said “We received directions to dispose of the shipment due to non-compliance with the standards, particularly that the milk had been expired since January 2015, and It cannot be given to babies one week after the expiry date inscribed on the can,”

According to the statement, the shipment was not intended for relief, but for sale in the local market. Moreover, both the labels and the report of the manufacturing company indicated that the milk was fit for consumption, but did not clarify if it was fit for consumption by babies, especially that expired baby milk can be utilized in other industries.

Holding the Free Department of Health in Idlib responsible, the administration of the crossing border confirmed that “allowing such shipments to pass would open the door for introducing a lot of spoiled foodstuffs, and the biggest loser are the Syrians.”
