After 10 days of fierce bombardment by the Russian and Syrian regimes against Aleppo, which killed and wounded hundreds of people, not to mention displacing thousands others, #AleppoBurns campaign continues. The campaign, which uses the red color symbolizing blood, was launched by Syrian and Arab activists to shed light on these atrocities. On Tuesday, the participants posted thousands of comments on the accounts of western officials and media in attempt to convince them to take a humanitarian attitude towards the innocent civilian victims, activists say.
Syrian activist indicated that the campaign has achieved enormous reach, forcing BBC to apologize for broadcasting a video that shows regime shelling against liberated areas, while adopting the story of the regime media claiming that the victims are in regime-held districts that were targeted by the opposition.
“Let’s Wear Red” is another event on Facebook started on Tuesday, which has been joined by more than 100 thousands users from all around the world. In the first post in this event, activist said: “The time has come for civil society across the world to raise its voice against the enemies of humanity, to show that humanity cannot be divided and that what binds us as humans is stronger than any other bond.”
Several capitals and cities around the world, including Beirut, Tunis, Istanbul to name a few, witnessed protests and sets-in of many forms sympathizing with Aleppo and condemning the fierce campaigns against its liberated districts. The participants demanded stopping the air strikes immediately and denounced the silence of the international community towards the Russian and Syrian regime violations against women and children in Syria.
It is noteworthy that dozens of people staged a sit-in in front of the Russian Embassy in the Dutch capital against the participation of Russia in bombing Aleppo, particularly targeting Al Quds hospital. Another sit-in was organized in London, in which participants demanded the UK to respond to the appeals of the besieged civilians and doctors and take the necessary measures to implement the United Nations resolutions.
