Never before has it been so important to have independent, honest voices and sources of information. Especially in Syria which has been suffering a gruesome war for more than 5 years at the hands of the Syrian regime , Russia, Iran , and Lebanese militias of Hizbullah .
Since the beginning of Syria's war, the regime of Bashar al-Assad, supported by Iran and Russia, has run a very elaborate media war to portray itself as the victim of an international conspiracy, while its opponents are terrorists from al-Qaeda and ISIS.
And it seems that a lot of western media have used the same narrative in delivering their news in an attempt to hide their blatant work of manipulating public opinion, manufacturing consent, and creating winners and losers in the minds of the already brain-washed public.
BBC News website , in its coverage of Aleppo massacres committed this week by the Russian and Syrian regime's airstrikes, has failed to acknowledge who is behind these atrocities and the number of killed people , saying: " Further air attacks have been carried out on parts of Aleppo - a key battleground in the Syrian civil war". "Strikes hit rebel-held districts for a ninth day, with at least three areas reported to have been targeted, causing an unknown number of casualties".
In another paragraph it says : " During Friday, rocket barrages fired by rebels were reported to have killed 15 worshippers in a government-held part of Aleppo.
"The Malla Khan mosque in Bab al-Faraj was hit, government officials said, causing heavy casualties. Some of the injured were in a serious condition and were likely to die, state television said".
Accusing the opposition of targeting innocent civilians and giving the exact number of casualties in regime-held areas , shows how the mainstream media pushes ulterior motives on the public, and how important it is to be vigilant when consuming their information.
In 23 April 2016, " Mail online " has written in an article titled " Truce in peril as Syria bombardments kill at least 30" , saying in the introduction : " At least 30 civilians were killed Saturday in regime and rebel bombardment of areas across Syria, threatening an eight-week-old truce at a time when peace talks are stalled in Geneva".
It's astonishing how the Newspaper came up with such conclusion, of rebels bombarding civilians , when the only forces that have air force power in Syria.. are the Syrian government and Russia !
In another article for the Telegraph on 6 December 2015 , the title was " Let’s deal with the Devil: we should work with Vladimir Putin and Bashar al-Assad in Syria"
That too is designed to reinforce Mr. Assad’s portrayal of himself as an essential partner, but the well-known news media has disregarded all the agony Syrians have suffered due to the constant bombardment and shelling of Syrian regime and Russia , not to mention, the atrocities, displacement, detention committed by Assad's forces for more than 5 years.
For Syrians the government of Bashar Assad is a brutal autocratic or even oligarchic regime, and the millions who are displaced internally and in neighboring countries, the hundreds of thousands who are killed are not terrorists , or jihadists but normal civilians who only demanded freedom, dignity and democracy.
