Suicide Drones Target a Camp in Idlib

Shouhoud Jadoua, Baladi News, Idlib Countryside

Al-Zouf camp located in the vicinity of Jisr al-Shughur city in the western countryside of Idlib, was subjected to bombardment of unknown origin, as some field activists posted on their personal accounts images of wreckage consisting of "Paper wings, electric circuits, a small motor, and a battery", and said that they were found in the bombed area.

Such wreckage was previously found after bombing areas in Kafr Zita in the northern countryside of Hama, and Maar Shamarin in the western countryside of Maarrat al-Nu'man , killing one person and wounding some of the medical stuff of Al-Maghara hospital in Kafr Zita.

Abdul Razzaq Abou Muhammed, a member of the FSA said: "Syrian regime has obtained suicide drone system that can be remotely controlled and it actually used it for a number of times". "These drones are hold in a shoulder-carried bag and can be installed anywhere through a portable air base from which they are launched sequentially with a slight time lag, and are controlled by a handle connected to screen to preview the target", he added.

He also indicated that the aircraft has a camera connected to the base and an explosive head ranging from 350 to 450 gram that spreads tiny shrapnel at explosion. Its working mechanism relies on identifying the target through the camera, then attacking it remotely by using a joystick. Such type of drones are either Russian or Iranian with Israeli technology as Iran announced in 2012 an experiment for one of its suicide drones, called "Ra'ad", but it hasn't been used yet in the Syrian war, the member added.
