A total of 342 Kurdish fighters have been “neutralized” since the start of Operation Peace Spring in northern Syria, a Turkish newspaper cited Turkey's defense minister as saying on Friday.
Hulusi Akar's comments came after his meeting with top military officials in Turkey's capital Ankara, where he said "every kind of measures have been taken" in operation areas, according to the newspaper.
"Our aim is to end the existence of terrorists -- especially Daesh, PKK/PYD-YPG -- east of the Euphrates River and establish a peace corridor to assure our Syrian brothers' return to their own lands, homes," Akar said.
Turkey on Wednesday launched Operation Peace Spring east of the Euphrates River in northern Syria claiming that the operation aims to secure its borders and Syria’s territorial integrity by eliminating terrorist elements and to ensure the safe return of Syrian refugees.
