Turkey sends concrete blocks to Syria to fortify observations posts within safe zone

The Turkish army deployed a total of four trucks loaded with concrete blocks to the southeastern Şanlıurfa province, near the PYD-occupied city of Tal Abyad in Syria, in order to reinforce its military observation posts as part of a planned safe zone along the country's border.

During the deployment, a large cloud of smoke was seen billowing from the inner parts of Tal Abyad, Demirören News Agency reported.

On Aug. 7, Turkish and U.S. military officials agreed to set up a safe zone in northern Syria and develop a peace corridor to facilitate the movement of displaced Syrians who want to return home. They also agreed to establish a joint operations center.

The agreement also envisaged setting up necessary security measures to address Turkey's security concerns, including clearing the zone off the terrorist YPG, a group the U.S. has sometimes been allied with, over Turkey’s objections.

Turkey and the U.S. military personnel completed on Sunday the first joint ground patrol for the establishment of a safe zone east of the Euphrates.

The patrol was backed by unmanned air vehicles and helicopters.
