A spokesman for a U.S.-backed force in Syria says a suicide bomber from Islamic State detonated his explosives on a road in northern Syria, targeting a joint convoy belonging to the force and the U.S.-led anti-ISIS coalition, Stars and Stripes reported.
Mustafa Bali, a spokesman for the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), said Monday’s attack near the town of Shaddadeh caused material damage but no casualties.
ISIS claimed responsibility in a statement and said the blast killed or wounded eight people in the convoy.
In March, the SDF backed by US-led coalition, announced defeating the Islamic State in its last bastion in Syria's Baghouz, after fierce battles which led to the surrender of hundreds of ISIS fighters. However, ISIS fighters are still conducting attacks and ambushes against the US allies and Assad regime forces in northern and northeastern Syria.
