It is not only the Russian media, but also Assad media that have reported Putin as saying that “While Russia is withdrawing most of its forces from Syria, they could be deployed there again in a matter of hours.”
It is natural for Russians to brag about their forces and to show off that they can do whatever they please whenever they want. But, it is very unnatural for the Assad regime to do the same.
Russians started bombarding Syria in the very beginning to defend their own interests and they have started withdrawing again to defend their own interests.
Russia has not consulted with Assad although the latter tried to lie by saying that he knew about Putin’s intentions. It might be that Assad wanted to be second to none in April’s fool so he made it in March.
The contradictions in the statements of Russia and the Assad regime following Putin’s decision to withdraw some of the forces from Syria are seen in that the Russians said they made the decision to withdraw forces, while Assad was talking about agreements and further support.
This shows that Assad is trying to manipulate the Russian decision in a way that reassures his backers and hides his worries.
The New York Times quoted the spokesman for the Kremlin as saying that Putin “decided to withdraw troops” and that this was a unilateral decision that was not made “at Assad’s request”. The newspaper also added that Putin’s decision is a “fierce message that Russia’s support for Assad is not unlimited.”
This is not the first time Assad lies; his life is a series of lies since he inherited the throne.
