Um Mohammed, the old woman who fled from the city of Mayadeen in Deir Ezzor, arrived at the city of al-Bab in eastern Aleppo, working day and night in an effort to secure her children and to make some money to cope with the harshness of displacement, after her husband became disabled because of the war.
"I have been displaced for about two years and I am selling some sweets and food to children in Al-Manshiyeh Park in the middle of Al- Bab, to earn a living for me, my young children and my husband, who is not strong enough to move," said Um Mohammed to Baladi News.
"I go out from 7 am till 6 pm, I go to the park to sell my goods to the children. After that, I go to a restaurant in al-Bab and sell biscuits, chips and other things. I go home at 1 AM after hours of hard work." She added.
"The day I do not go out to work, we can not sleep because of hunger. Electricity, water and rent are very expensive," she said. "The housing rent is 50,000 S.P, electricity and water cost 10,000 S.P"
She pointed out that she borrowed a sum of money to buy her goods, and she had nothing left to live. She earns 1000 S.P a day, which is not enough to get bread.
Um Mohammed said she worked in winter and under harsh conditions in order to secure a living for her family.
"I was in al-Mayadeen with my family, and I never expected to sell biscuits and other things in the gardens one day, but the injustice of "Daesh" led us to flee our region. I chose to work despite my age so that I would not be dependent on anyone."
