Berlin: Turkish presence in Syria aims to protect civilians

Baladi News

The German Government said that Ankara is right in its military intervention in the Syrian territories, and that Turkish intervention aims to eliminate the terrorist organisations that threaten Turkey's security.

Berlin does not consider Turkish military presence as an occupation, it rather considers it as a protection for the civilians in the towns of "Jarablus, al-Bab, and Ezaz," north of Syria.

German Government pointed out that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan repeatedly assured the international community that there is no intention for  his country to stay long in Syria.

Berlin also clarified that Turkey has the right to protect itself from "Daesh" organisation, and that Ankara eliminated Daesh in "Jarablus, al-Bab, and Ezaz" in the operation of Euphrates Shield, and expelled the "Kurdish Units" from Afrin after the operation of Olive Branch.

Reports say around 300 thousand Syrian refugees have voluntarily returned to Syria after the operation of Euphrates Shield and Olive Branch, which were conducted by the Turkish army and the Syrian opposition factions.
