Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Wednesday said that the U.S. was taking no concrete measures to withdraw its military from Syria.
Last month, U.S. President Donald Trump abruptly announced plans to withdraw American forces from the war-weary country.
Trump made the decision during a phone call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in which the two leaders agreed on the need for more effective coordination vis-à-vis Syria.
Zakharova added that the situation in Syria’s Idlib province where Russia and Turkey have tried to create a de-escalation zone is rapidly deteriorating.
The territory is now almost under full control of Nusra militants, she said.
“Continuing provocations pose a threat to civilians, Syrian military personnel and the Russian Khmeimim air base,” Interfax citing Zakharova as saying.
