US forces are planning to establish a new military base in al-Sabha region, eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, despite US President Donald Trump's announcement to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria.
"US forces are preparing to build a new military base in a high hill-like area, known as Tala al-Sabha, in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor," media activist Zine Alabideen told Baladi News.
The area chosen by US forces is a high area which overlooks the surrounding villages and oversees the Euphrates River, and it's adjacent to the position of the regime forces on the opposite bank in the town of Al-Buleil.
In a statement said before leaving the White House to meet the families of soldiers killed in the Manbij bombing last Wednesday, US President Donald Trump reiterated that US soldiers should be returned home form Syria.
