Israeli raids target Iranian military sites in Syria (Updated)

The IDF targeted on Sunday night sites belonging to the Iranian Quds Force in Syrian territory, Israeli media reported the IDF Spokesperson's Unit as saying.

In a statement, it said it was "currently striking" the Iranian Revolutionary Guards' Quds Force in Syria and warned Syria's military against "attempting to harm Israeli territory or forces".

"The IDF air strike took place late Sunday night, hours after a projectile was identified over the Golan Heights. The Iron Dome successfully intercepted the projectile," the Jerusalem Post said.

Other media sources reported the raids to be the most violent on Syria, where they targeted Iranian sites in al-Kiswah, the Scientific Research Center in Jamraya, the vicinity of Damascus International Airport, al-Mezzeh Military Airport and Al-Thaala Military Airport. 

A Syrian military source said that Syrian air defenses thwarted more than 18 hostile targets, where 8 missiles were dropped near Damascus International Airport, and 10 near the area of al-Kiswah.

State news agency SANA reported that the air defenses thwarted "hostile targets" and shot down several of them, but didn't elaborate.

The Jerusalem Post reported that the Israeli raids succeeded in damaging and destroying Iranian and Hezbollah weapons depots and military sites in the area of the Damascus airport and in the area of al-Kiswah and Jamraya, according to a report by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The SOHR report also said there were fatalities and heavy damages.Likewise, a Syrian military source described the attack as "massive."
