The United States may keep part of its troops in Syria, especially at al-Tanf base south of the country, but the administration of President Donald Trump has not taken any decision on this matter, NBC quoted a senior US official as saying.
The official, who accompanied US national security adviser, John Bolton, during his visit to "Israel" clarified that the United States has no timetable for the withdrawal of its troops from Syria, at a time believed that it is possible to eliminate the remnants of "Daesh" organization in Syria within weeks, adding that some of the troops to be withdrawn from Syria would be transferred to Iraq.
He pointed out that Bolton, during his visit to "Israel", is planning to discuss the possibility of retaining some troops at al-Tanf base, south of Syria, as it plays an important role in reducing the Iranian influence in the region.
During his visit to the occupied territories, Bolton will meet the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and the Israeli intelligence chief, to confirm that the Trump administration is still pursuing a consistent strategy to confront Iran.
