Baladi News - Idlib
The Head of Russian delegation to Astana-11 meetings, also Russian President’s Special Envoy to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev said that establishing a demilitarized zone in Idlib requires more time, expressing his country's readiness to help the Syrian opposition in expelling Hayyat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) - al-Nusra- from the region.
"All the meeting parties reiterated the necessity of reestablishing stability in the areas under the control of Syrian Government, including the southern region on the borders with Iraq," Lavrentiev added.
In press conference on the first day of Astana 11, Lavrentiev said " we hope that armed factions of the moderate Syrian opposition will be able to control the situation in this troubled region, and if necessary, we are ready to help them in this, with participation of government forces."
He pointed out that more than 15 thousand members of "Nusra" are in Idlib, adding that "fighting al-Nasra and other terrorist formations will continue until the total elimination of terrorism."
Noteworthy that Idlib province witnesses protests demanding the release of detainees in the prisons of "HTS", as well as condemning the practices of the "Salvation Government" against the people of the city and the revolution's activists.
Observers believe that Russia is trying to exploit this crisis to launch a surprise attack with the regime forces, to take control over Idlib.
