The leading jihadist in rebel-held northwest Syria has urged his men to resist an impending attack by regime forces, showing up the failure of Turkey’s plan to exert control there.
Abu Muhammad al-Golani warned rebels not to countenance “reconciliation” or surrender deals. “Our weapons are the source of our strength and honour,” he said. “Thinking about surrendering to the enemy and handing over weapons will be considered treason.”
Al-Golani indicated that Hayyat Tahrir al-Sham has developed a defensive plan to confront the regime forces, in order to thwart any attempt to repeat the scenario of south Syria in Idlib.
He called on the rebel factions not to count on the Turkish observation posts, because they are linked to the political attitudes of the guarantor states, and these attitudes can change at any time.
