The Saudi government has contributed $100 million to allegedly revitalizing areas in northeastern Syria, which are under the control of the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the Yeni Safak newspapers wrote.
"The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has contributed $100 million dollars in northeast Syria," the newspaper quoted a statement published by the Saudi embassy in Washington DC.
The SDF is dominated by the People’s Protection Units (YPG) which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the European Union and the United States, the newspaper added.
Washington operates military bases in areas northeastern Syria, which is largely controlled by the PKK linked SDF.
The Saudi embassy said the funding represents the Kingdom’s close partnership with Washington, according to the newspaper.
