Alexander Zasypkin, Russia's Ambassador to Lebanon, affirmed that his country support Assad's forces in their military campaign in the de-escalation zone in south west Syria.
"The Syrian army, backed by Russian forces, has now begun an operation to restore its territories in the south," Zasypkin said on Saturday, claiming that there is no justification for Israel to take any action that would disrupt the fight against terrorism.
The statements of the Ambassador contradict the official statements by Moscow; that said there is no intention to intervene in the battles of the Syrian south, and that regime forces will fight without the backing of the Russian ally.
In the same context, the United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Nikki Healy, said on Friday that Russia bears responsibility for any military escalation by the Assad forces in south west Syria.
