The Middle East Monitor reported that Belgium’s Minister of Development Cooperation Alexander De Croo yesterday announced that his country will allocate €26 million ($32 million) for the humanitarian needs of Syrian both in the war torn country and the surrounding areas.

“We are doing this as an expression of solidarity with the Syrian people who for eight years have been trapped in a bloody war. It is the biggest humanitarian crisis of our time,” the official said at the start of an international conference to support Syria in Brussels.

De Croo said “the international community wanted to send a strong signal that only a political solution could end the conflict.”

The bombs will not bring peace. The real and stable solution in Syria can only be achieved through negotiations.

The Supporting Syria and the Region conference began yesterday and is set to come to an end today in the Belgian capital, Brussels, in the aim of mobilizing international support for the peace process in Syria and assisting Syrian refugees who have remained in the country and those that have fled.
