Baladi News - Damascus countryside (Malek al-Hirik)
The Free military Council of Damascus and its suburbs, led by Colonel Ammar al-Nimr, announced on Tuesday a 72-hour extension of the al-Ghouta faction's response to his initiative to form a unified national army.
The military council in Damascus and its countryside had presented its initiative to resolve the crisis in the eastern Ghouta on 05/07/2017, which included the items announced within the initiative, one- week period was given to respond to it by all military factions and civil activities. At the request of some entities, the deadline was extended 72 hours, the statement said.
In its statement, the military council in Damascus and its countryside called for a press conference to put in your hands the names of the bodies that agreed to the initiative, as promised.
The military council stressed in the statement that his initiative did not have anything to do with what was rumored about the formation of a national army in the conferences of "lies and deception." Rather, it aimed at establishing a free revolutionary national army that works against the regime until its overthrow. Jaysh al-Islam, with its consent to the initiative, wanted to start the establishment of this army, whose first and last goal is to overthrow the regime.
The military council concluded by stressing that it will continue to pursue this initiative until it reaches the formation of a unified national revolutionary army in Syria.
It is worth mentioning that the second infighting between Jaysh al-Islam on the one hand and the al-Rahman legion and Tahrir al-Sham on the other on 28/04/2017 led to a geographical division of the areas of control and influence among the factions of Al-Ghouta, in addition to a fracture among the civil bodies there.
