The War of Assad’s Regime and its Militias in the Syrian Desert Forces Hundreds of Families to Leave to Daraa

Baladi News – Daraa (Huzaifa Halawa)

Like Syrians in other areas, the battles of Assad’s regime and militias in the Syrian desert, under the Russian aerial cover, forced the residents to leave their homes seeking for a safe haven.

Abu Odai, a commander at Ahrar al-Ashaer army, and a local who received displaced people in Daraa countryside, said, “the main reason for the departure of civilians from their houses in Suwaida desert is the barbaric assaults of the regime and the Iranian militias.”

The speaker clarified that families were displaced to Daraa countryside from the towns of Bir al-Qasab, al-Ashhıb, Nashwan, Alya, Tel Asfar, and al-Qasr, where the Iranian militias advanced.

The speaker warned that the situations of the refugees in Daraa countryside are extremely bad. The majority of these families have got no houses, or even tents, to host them as well as their children. They also do not have water tanks to store water for the daily use.

The most pressing needs for these families currently are tents, mattresses, and clothes, because they had no time to carry anything due to the surprise attack of Assad’s regime, the speaker added.

Those refugees, as indicated by the speaker, risked their lives by crossing more than 100 kilometers on their feet. Some of them were intercepted and arrested by the regime forces, whereas others were summarily executed, and another part was kidnapped for ransoms and they are unaccounted for so far.

Out of these, 60 families have succeeded to reach Daraa countryside, and the numbers are gwowing on a daily basis.

It is noteworthy that the areasof Suwaida countryside from which residents were displaced had been controlled by the Free Syrian Army until Assad's regime forces exploited the ceasefire in southern Syria to control massive areas in the province, most imoprtantly ber al-Qasab and Ashhib.
