Southern Syria Agreement Enters its 7th Day, and Civilians are not optimistic

Baladi News – Daraa (Private)

For the Seventh day, and despite the repeated breaches of Assad's regime through artillery shelling against some villages and towns in Hauran and Quneitra, the truce in southern Syrian continues, whereas civilians in general do not pin high hopes on it.

However, some consider the truce as a chance for breathtaking after months of military operations in which civilians were the biggest loser.

Abdul Aziz, a civilian from the countryside of Daraa considers that "the truce in its current form serves the interests if Assad's regime after its repeated failures to advance in the province." "The regime has exploited the ceasefire to move its forces towards more sensitive areas, achieving some advance in the desert," he added.

Abu Ali, a household head from Daraa, said, "unlike the single young men who committed their lives to advocate us and defend our honor, I will always be inclined to support any calm or ceasefire that would reunite us under one roof."

Ahmad, a fighter in the Free Syrian Army (FSA), believes that the truce was imposed on both the regime and the FSA. "We should make use of the ceasefire to strengthen our fronts and move our forces to areas not covered by the truce, such as the desert," he said.
