In its regular report on the number of torture victims, the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) released a report in June documenting the death of 108 victims due to torture over the first half of 2017.
Assad’s regime was responsible for 95 deaths, whereas 5 were caused by the Kurdish Self-Management, and 8 others were perpetrated by other parties.
According to the report, the majority of victims belong to Aleppo and Deir ez-Zour provinces, with 15 people tortured to death in each, whereas the remaining number of victims is distributed as follows: 14 from Daraa, 11 from Idlib, 13 from Homs, 13 from Damascus, 7 from Damascus Countryside, 6 from Lattakia, 6 from Hama, 4 from Hasakah, 3 from Raqqa, and 1from a foreign country.
The report also shed light on the number of death cases due to torture during June. These are 26 at least, of whom 22 were killed by Assad’s regime. Damascus province had the biggest share of torture victims with 8 people, whereas the rest are distributed as follows: 4 from Deir ez –Zour, 4 from Homs, 4 from Aleppo, 3 from Daraa, 3 from Hasakah, one from Idlib, and one from Raqqa.
