Syria, Between Dividing and Dismemberment and “Bids” of Unity

Baladi News – (Mona Ali)

The French plan that will be put forward by the French President Emmanuel Macaron regarding the solution in Syria, of which some items were leaked by private sources to Baladi News, included an item emphasizing the unity and centrality of the Syrian territories, which had also been stressed by the international and regional states active in the Syrian and led by (the United States, Russia, Iran…

These states, which emphasize in each and every occasion the importance of keeping the Syria homeland united, share the influence in Syria themselves, not only politically, but also militarily; Russia controls the Syrian coast as a whole as well as parts of Homs and Aleppo, and it has a strong presence in Palmyra and the Syrian Desert. Iran has become the main power controlling Assad’s regime areas, gripping Damascus city and countryside and having a strong presence in Homs and the environs of Hama and Aleppo and even the areas along the Israeli borders.

With the presence of Turkish troops in the north of Aleppo, which entered Syria to support the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in its war against ISIS, the Syrian territories now include four powers, the presence of some of which, namely Russia and Iran, became a fait accompli, whereas the presence of Turkey and the United States is subject to change.

Syrian journalist Firas Dibeh considered that “leaders’ statements cannot be taken seriously” due to previous “exposed” statements by the American, British, and French at the time of Iraq’s invasion.

Dibeh attributed the statements to propagandas and political bids. He reviewed the current military bases in the Syrian territories and the share of influence among Russia, Iran, the USA, and Turkey, and indicated that the demarcation of borders is in progress, citing the example of Hama northern countryside dismembered between the rebels and Iran.

Internally, Dibeh considered that it would be so difficult for the components of the Syrian people to co-exist again due to the crisis of confidence because of the blood-shed that has not ended so far as well as the desire for vengeance. Therefore, “federalism could be the only way out to maintain Syria as one state,” concluded the speaker.
