Eid al-Fitr In the Syrians' Camps…A Festival of Nostalgia

Eid al-Fitr visits again the tents of the Syrian refugees and expatriates, but without any aspects of joy or happiness as most of them suffer from difficult living circumstances, not to mention the pains resulted from the grinding war in their country.

Today, there are more than 3 million Syrian refugees on the Turkish territories, distributed on 24 camps within 8 Turkish governorates and in the big cities. The number of those who left the Turkish territories to Syria for spending Eid al-Fitr with their families reached about 150,000 Syrian refugees during the time limit given by the Turkish government recently.

"Najm al-Deen Najm", a Syrian refugee from the city of al-Raqqa who lives in Turkey, said: "It's my 3rd Eid here in Turkey and I miss my family, but what makes me really sad is that I don't feel the joyful rituals of Eid I was used to in my country, as I did my best to create the same atmosphere of Eid in Syria, but I couldn't".

"Like most of the Syrian refugees families, work comes on top of our priorities as all we do is work just to earn enough money to pay the rent of our houses and to settle the bills of gas, water and electricity", he added.

Luai Qassoum, another Syrian refugee from the city of Tybat al-Imam, said: " I was hoping to spend Eid in my house with my relatives and friends, but my house was destroyed by the Russian warplanes and most my beloved ones were killed by Assad's missiles".

However, the residents of one of the refugees camps in the town of Atmah try to create a joyful atmosphere for children in the days of Eid every year through bringing them some swings and toys despite the difficult living circumstances just to see hope in the eyes of the displaced children.
