Will Iran be Able to Face International Coalition in Syrian Desert?

Baladi News – (Military Editor)

The recent movements and mobilizations of forces in al-Tanf area and the Syrian Desert in general caused a lot of talk about the prospect of a confrontation between Iran and its militias supported by Russia on the one hand and the US-led international coalition on the other to control the area sought-after by all parties due to its strategic importance.

Looking at the balance of forces in the area, it can be said that any analysis or talk about an Iranian-US confrontation or Iranian endeavors to take the area by force from the United States would be unrealistic and illogical. In traditional military confrontations, in which nuclear weapons are not used, the United States is far superior to all parties, including Russia itself.

In addition, the Iranian militias that were deployed in Syria are not equipped with any kind of anti-aircraft weapons, which places them in a very miserable condition under aerial attacks. The recent strike against the military convoy and the Shiite militias caused the destruction of more than 15 military vehicles, including Shilkas and automatic cannons in a matter of minutes without leaving any chance for the militias to respond or even escape.

Iran understands very well its real value, as it cannot move one meter on the Syrian land without the approval of the United States. Indeed, Iran exploits the need for its ground forces, amounting to 250 thousand Iraqi militants in Iraq and Syria, in the battle against ISIS. This, along with the Russian support, gives it an advantage in negotiations with the United States to obtain its share of the Syrian land.
