The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan declared on Thursday that the fifth Astana meeting on Syria was put off till later time.
This is the second postponement of the meeting. The new round of negotiations, after the first postponement, was to take place between 12 and 13 of this month. However, it seems that as long as Daraa battle has not finished yet due to the epic resistance of the rebels, Russia has chosen to put off the meeting until further notice in a repetition of the scenario of Aleppo.
After this scenario came out and after Russia reneged on its commitments, will there be any justification for the Syrian military opposition to continue being part of this game?
Syrian journalist and writer Nagmeldin al-Samman, considered that the Syrian opposition is out of any options, as “the events on the ground are what change the course of any negotiations,” and therefore, Russia postponed the next round of negotiations till capturing Daraa in synchronization with the fall of Raqqa with American support.
At the end, Al-Samman expressed pessimism that the coming days would bring about what is worse for Syrians, especially amid the accord of Gulf States and the infighting among rebel factions in both eastern GHouta and Idlib.
