The Trump administration has been participating in secret talks with Russia in an attempt to establish a de-escalation zone in Syria, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The safe zone would be established in hopes of separating Syrian government forces and rebels. Sources tell the Journal the safe zone would be located in the southwest portion of the war-torn country.
Two meetings have reportedly already taken place. The last meeting occurred two weeks ago in Jordan and included Jordanian officials. Another meeting was set to take place in Amman this week but canceled due to scheduling conflicts.

The talks between the U.S. and Russia come as the White House continues to face scrutiny in the federal probe into alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Russian election meddling.
Officials told the Journal they hope to figure out how to further work with Russia to combat and destroy the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), which is a common enemy for other countries.
